Old Palma de Mallorca is an intriguing mesh of gothic, Romanesque and Moorish influences, including La Seu Cathedral and several great palaces. The nearby resort town Porto Cristo features excellent restaurants and shops as well as the wonderful Coves del Drac (Dragon Caves) with their subterranean lake.
Mahon, the principal port of Menorca, will let you admire 18th-century British buildings and the lovely Santa Maria church downtown.
The beautiful natural harbour of Sóller de Mallorca is surrounded by the spectacular mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana, whose foothills are covered with lemon and orange groves. Art lovers may want to hire a car and visit the Carthusian monastery of Valldemossa, where Sand, Chopin and Borges spent some time.
